Continue on, let's find three places in Gangnam.
Garosu-gil
- near subway station: Sinsa Station, Apgujeong Station
Until a few years ago, Garosugil was the most famous fashion street in Korea. It is a place with many fancy restaurants and is one of the rich villages in Gangnam. Additionally, in this neighborhood, there are a lot of plastic surgery hopitals. Nowadays, it feels quieter than before as people turn to other rising neighborhoods where new cafes and restaurants are now being opened. However, there are still famous restaurants left, and some editing shops can be found. Since there are still many Western food and cafes here, it is one of the first neighborhoods that come to mind when I go to have a weekend brunch with my friends. Prices are certainly higher here than in other neighborhoods. On the other hand, these days, there are various brand-new restaurants and cafes in nearby Dosan Park rather than Garosu-gil, so people seem to have moved toward there.
Songridan-gil
- near subway station: Seokchon Station, Songpa Naru Station
This neighborhood became famous when the second Lotte World Tower was opened in Jamsil. To be honest, it is ambiguous to recommend Songridan-gil. It is a small-scale town, and restaurants are not diverse by my standards. However, considering the visitor's movements and traffic around it and its positions, the value of this place increases. Next to Songridan-gil, there is Seokchon Lake (famous for cherry blossom festivals in spring), Lotte World Tower shopping mall, observatory, department store, and hotels are concentrated, and you can go to Lotte World to go on rides. Songridangil feels more like a living space where people in Seoul go out on weekends with their family, friends, and lovers and enjoy shopping, hobbies, and working out.
Sharosu-gil
- near subway station: Seoul National University Station, Nakseongdae Station
At the main gate of Seoul National University, the most famous university in Korea, there is a symbolic "샤" shape sculpture. Sharosu-gil, which originated from there, is a place where many single-person households, including students, are residing. The place where many studios are gathered is called 'oneroomchon'(원룸촌 , a studio village) in Korea, and literally, there are lots of small studios or one-room apartments. And this neighborhood is the place where many students and university graduates who are just starting out in a career in society live. Therefore, you can find relatively inexpensive food and cute restaurants in Sharosu-gil than the places described so far.
Where do you want to go the most?
So far, I have introduced trendy neighborhoods that local people in Seoul often visit. If you come to Korea for a trip, you can get more diverse and up-to-date information if you know the 6 neighborhoods I introduced and then look for restaurants or cafes. Instead, famous places have to wait on the street unless you make a reservation, so I recommend making a reservation in advance!
