K-Drama Recommendation from Korean / Korean '인생Insaeng'drama&movie 1 : It's Okay, That's Love

by Kim-something 2022. 8. 3.

What is  'Insaeng Drama'?

In Korea, we use the word "Insaeng drama". Insaeng is a Korean word that means life. It stands for the most impressive and good work in my life. In Korea, the word Myungpoom drama is also used, which means high-end or luxury brand in Korean, it is used to refer to works that are excellent in both content and acting. Every country has many works like hidden gems. And compared to the past, there are more opportunities to watch such tv series or movies has also become easier. From now on, I would like to introduce K-dramas and K-movies that many people do not know yet. I don't think it's a recommendation that everyone would like, such as "Squid Game" and "Kingdom," which have already become famous. In this space, I'm starting to introduce my own Insaeng drama that I really like.

It's Okay, That's Love (괜찮아,사랑이야 / 2014)

One of my favorite K-drama. It is the work of Noh Hee-Kyung, who wrote various Insaeng dramas that have many fans in Korea. (The drama "The World That They Live in" that she wrote was also impressive, so I think it would be good to talk about it if I had a chance) "It's okay, that's love" was the drama that made me feel fresh. Because it dealt with human mental problems that were not common much in Korea. The characters in the drama all have wounds, trauma, and mental problems. In addition, the main characters are living together in a sharehouse, and the concept of a sharehouse was not common at that time(2014), so it must have seemed like a new lifestyle. (even now, sharehouse is not common in Korea). As the subject is not too easy to solve, there are a lot of disturbing things to watch. However, the drama keeps a good balance from beginning to end. It's heavy but light, sad but it gets better, there's love, but there's a parting. In this drama, there was a sense of humor even in a series of conflict situations.
The main characters are Hae-soo (Gong Hyo-jin), a psychiatrist, and Jae-yeol (Cho In-sung), who suffers from schizophrenia. Both are famous actors in Korea. In particular, Gong Hyo-jin is called 'Gongvely(Gong+Lovely)' and is one of the Korean favorite actresses) It is a rather general development drama in which they love each other and heal wounds during the process, but it has become an Insaeng drama for many Koreans thanks to detailed emotions and expressions in acting, fresh lines, various contents about mental illness, and deep contents about wounds and healing of characters. Also, in Korea, which is not open to relationships, the appearance of various relationships in this drama was quite interesting.

They lived happily ever after

Despite the heavy topics, the conclusion is a happy ending. If you want to experience Korean medical romance drama, I recommend it.

*Good to watch together with - Gaetmaeul ChaChaCha / Strange Lawyer Woo Young Woo / Hospital Playlist
